Apollo Group TV on Roku
Roku doesn't allow sideloading like Firestick does — there's no Roku Channel Store app for Apollo Group TV, and Roku locks down third-party installs. The reliable workaround is screen mirroring from a phone or tablet that already has Apollo installed. Setup takes about 5 minutes.
Why there’s no Apollo app on Roku
Roku’s Channel Store has strict rules that block apps which aggregate channels across many sources. Like every other IPTV provider, we’re not in the Roku store. And unlike Firestick or Android TV, Roku doesn’t support sideloading APKs.
The good news: you can still watch Apollo Group TV on your Roku-connected TV by screen mirroring from a phone or tablet that has the Apollo app installed. Picture and sound stream from your phone to the TV over wifi.
What you’ll need
- A Roku-compatible TV or Roku stick (Roku OS 7.5 or newer)
- A phone or tablet with the Apollo Group TV app installed and signed in
- Both devices on the same wifi network
- About 5 minutes
Method 1 — Mirror from Android
- On Roku: Settings → System → Screen mirroring → Screen mirroring mode → choose Prompt or Always allow.
- Install Apollo Group TV on your Android phone (we email you the APK download link after subscribing).
- On your Android phone, swipe down to open Quick Settings and tap Cast (or “Smart View” on Samsung). Pick your Roku from the list.
- Open the Apollo Group TV app on your phone. Whatever you play is now mirrored on your TV.
Method 2 — Mirror from iPhone or iPad (AirPlay)
Most Roku models from 2018+ support AirPlay 2. Check your specific model on the Roku site if unsure.
- On Roku: Settings → Apple AirPlay and HomeKit → turn AirPlay on.
- Install Apollo Group TV on your iPhone or iPad (from your welcome email).
- Swipe down from the top-right of your iPhone/iPad to open Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring, and choose your Roku.
- Open the Apollo Group TV app. Playback streams to the TV via AirPlay.
Method 3 — Buy a cheap Firestick or Android TV box instead
If screen mirroring feels clunky for daily use (it can drop occasionally on busy wifi), the most reliable fix is a $30 Amazon Fire TV Stick or a $20 Onn 4K Streaming Box. Both sideload Apollo natively, play 4K, and use the same TV input as your Roku. For many users this is the best long-term solution.
We have full Firestick and Android TV install guides for those routes. Either requires the 6-digit downloader code from your Apollo welcome email.
Troubleshooting screen mirroring
The Roku doesn’t appear in my cast list
Both devices must be on the same wifi network (not one on 2.4 GHz and the other on 5 GHz of the same router unless your router bridges them). Check both, and try restarting the Roku from Settings → System → System restart.
Mirroring works but the video stutters
Screen mirroring is bandwidth-sensitive. Move closer to your router, or plug your Roku into Ethernet if it has the port. Pause anything else on your network (large downloads, other 4K streams).
The TV shows a black screen with audio
The Apollo player’s DRM protection occasionally blanks the mirror output on certain Roku models. Try a different content category — most live channels mirror fine, even when some premium VOD doesn’t. If a specific show keeps blacking out, that’s the workaround you’ll have to live with on Roku.
Frequently asked questions
Will Apollo Group TV ever be on the Roku Channel Store?
Unlikely. Roku’s store rules prohibit our class of app. Roku users sideload via screen mirroring or switch to Firestick.
Does mirroring use my phone battery?
Yes — your phone stays awake the whole time. Plug it in if you’re watching a movie. Some Android phones support “cast without mirror” mode in Apollo’s settings, which uses less battery.
Can I cast a 4K stream from my phone to Roku?
Most phones cast at 1080p over wifi even when the source is 4K. For real 4K playback, a Firestick 4K or Apple TV is the better choice.
I have a Roku TV (built-in). Is the setup different?
No — Roku TV uses the same Roku OS. Follow the same steps under Settings.
